Steve Kent is the Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Mount Pearl.  He is the former Mayor of Mount Pearl, former Deputy Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and former Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Steve is focused on building community and connections within his city and across his province.  In all capacities, he has worked to balance the needs of individuals with the needs of the community, and works to strengthen all of the communities he serves.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and Certificate in Public Administration from Memorial University, and a Masters degree in Management from McGill University.

Earlier in his professional life, he served as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland and Manager of Corporate Development at Stirling Communications International. Steve also started The FOCUS Group, providing management and marketing consulting for both the private and community sectors. He and his wife own FOCUS Driver Training Incorporated and Maritime Driving School Incorporated, which operate Young Drivers of Canada centres in Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

Steve has a long history of community involvement. He is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Waterford Valley, the Mount Pearl Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus, and he supports the local arts community and sports groups. He led Scouts Canada for four years as Chief Commissioner and Chair of the Board of Governors and is currently Past Chair of the Board. Steve also serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.

Steve lives in Mount Pearl with his wife, Janet, and their three sons, Ben, Ciaran, and Sam.
